Here’s a quick rundown of what we cover in the video:
- Deer & Fencing Solutions
Deer were our biggest headache—they ate everything from watermelons to elderberries! In the video, we show how we’re using solar-powered fencing and other methods to protect our young vines. If you’ve ever struggled with wildlife ruining your hard work, this part is definitely for you. - Soil Building with Vermiculture
We introduced thousands of worms (plus worm castings, rock minerals, and biochar) into each planting hole to enrich the soil. Over time, the thick layer of wood chips breaks down into composted goodness. Watch how we set it all up and how it’s already working wonders on our vines. - Electroculture on the Trellis
To help boost plant growth, we’ve added magnets and other electroculture elements directly onto our trellis wire. It’s a fascinating, still-emerging technique, but we’re experimenting to see if we can give our vines a little extra edge naturally. - Back-to-Eden Mulching
We love the Back-to-Eden approach, so you’ll see us layering wood chips around each vine. This method helps with moisture retention and weed control, and it breaks down into nutrient-rich soil. It’s been a game-changer for us, and we walk you through each step in the video. - Organic Wine Plans
Ultimately, we’re growing these grapes to make our own organic wine. We eat a lot of grapes and thought, “Why not turn some of them into wine?” It’s a fun project that ties into our broader goal of living more sustainably. Down the road, we also plan to keep bees for honey, which opens up even more possibilities (mead, anyone?).
